Bringing in the blokes

Bringing in the Blokes has gone international! Dr Barry Golding Associate Professor, School of Education, University of Ballarat who many may have met at the Learning Centre Link State Conference in 2008 and whose education-related research in the past decade has focused mainly on issues associated with equity and access in vocational, adult and community education has recommended the Link booklet on his travels and a copy has now been sent to Scotland.

More good ideas

A revised verson of The Little Book of Good Ideas - More Good Ideas is being compiled for a 2009 launch.The Little Book of Good Ideas, launched in 2004 offered ideas and tips for Centres to use. Centres were asked to contribute ideas which collated into a booklet provided over 70 ideas for Centres. In response to a Centre committee asking for suggestions on ways to acknowledge their paid staff, Learning Centre Link is again compiling a booklet of good ideas More Good Ideas.Any suggestions are welcome at the Link office, so please share any information about how people are rewarded at the Centre and any other ideas that is used that works at your Centre. A Tip from The Little Book of Good Ideas - Don't use bright yellow too much in playgrounds as wasps are attracted to yellow.

About learning centres

The brochure 'About Learning Centres' has been updated. It describes what a neighbourhood and learning centre is in 18 different languages for people from new and emerging cultures coming to live or stay in Australia. The brochure, available free from Learning Centre Link, provides space so that centres can add their own contact details.

Men Too project

Leading to Bringing in the Blokes publication. A guide to attracting and involving men in community, neighbourhood and learning centres.

Spreading the Learning

The story by four community based centres in WA, who developed many different strategies to celebrate the cultural diversity in their local region. This resource has many practical applications for working with culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) groups.

 

Easier than it looks

Generic policy and procedure manual produced with support from Lotterywest. Distributed to centres in CD and hard copy. Training provided to assist centres to customise this resource.

The result of a study looking at the benefits for individuals and community groups gained from centre membership.

A guide for facilitators working with people from different cultural backgrounds and/or people with disabilities to enhance their participation in centre activities.

In which centres contributed many innovative and creative ideas for programmes with practical and helpful tips for their implementation.

Partnerships - the way to go

A publication produced in partnership with DET designed to encourage and assist providers of adult community education (ACE) and other training and community organisations to act more closely together to support the need for adult learning in communities.

Programming in Community, Neighbourhood & Learning Centres

A valuable resource for Centre programme Co-ordinators, with many useful tips and suggestions to assist in the production of a varied and interesting programme of ACE activities.

Setting up a creche

Written in partnership with Dept for Community Development (now Dept for Child Protection) to ensure centres comply with the new regulations.
